What I love about photographing weddings at The Upper House
The Upper House has to be one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the Staffordshire area. Set within the rolling Staffordshire countryside, this elegant country house combines historic character with beautifully maintained gardens and grounds, creating a wonderfully romantic setting for a wedding. Just a short drive from Stoke-on-Trent and close to Stone, it's a venue that feels peaceful and secluded while still being conveniently located for couples and their guests.
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at The Upper House is how naturally the venue works throughout the day. From the moment guests arrive, there are beautiful surroundings to enjoy, while the gardens and grounds provide plenty of opportunities for relaxed, natural photographs without the day ever feeling dominated by photography. The different areas around the venue offer a lovely mixture of open views, mature greenery and elegant architectural details, giving couples plenty of variety for their photographs.
The grounds offer a beautiful mix of scenery, with sweeping lawns, mature trees, landscaped gardens and peaceful corners that work particularly well for more intimate portraits. The surrounding Staffordshire countryside adds another layer to the setting, giving photographs that timeless country-house feel. Whether it's a few natural photographs together after the ceremony, candid moments with family and friends or more considered portraits, there are plenty of opportunities to create a varied wedding gallery without needing to travel between different locations.
Some of my favourite places to photograph around The Upper House include the elegant frontage of the house, the surrounding gardens and lawns, the mature trees and greenery, and the quieter areas of the grounds that provide a more intimate backdrop. The combination of the house and countryside setting means photographs can have a mixture of grand, elegant and relaxed looks, while everything remains conveniently close together.
The venue works just as well for guests as it does for photography. The outdoor spaces provide a relaxed setting for guests to enjoy drinks and conversation, while the house itself creates a warm and elegant atmosphere as the celebrations continue. This makes it easy to capture the natural moments that happen throughout the day, guests laughing together, conversations between family members, children enjoying themselves and all those little moments that can otherwise be missed.
This blend of beautiful countryside, elegant architecture and relaxed surroundings is exactly why I enjoy photographing weddings at The Upper House. It's a venue that offers plenty of variety while still allowing couples to enjoy their wedding day naturally, creating timeless photographs that tell the story of the day without taking them away from it.
