Kay & John's Lichfield Registry Wedding

Kay and John's wedding journey began in the beautiful cathedral city of Lichfield, where they chose to say their "I do's" surrounded by their closest family and friends.

Before the ceremony, guests gathered in the park just outside the registry office, enjoying the glorious sunshine beside the fountain and beautiful greenery. There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere as the children raced around the park while I quietly captured those natural, candid moments. Meanwhile, John waited nearby with a mixture of excitement and nerves, chatting with family and friends before the ceremony began.

Soon enough, Kay arrived in style in a gorgeous retro VW Campervan with her brother. She looked absolutely stunning as she stepped from the car, taking a quiet moment before making her way into the registry office. She was gently ushered into the waiting room while John remained at the front, eagerly anticipating the moment he would finally see his bride.

With a few minutes to spare, I photographed guests making the final preparations, lipstick touch-ups, Liam proudly holding the wedding rings, and John trying his best to hide those pre-ceremony nerves. I then slipped away to spend a few moments with Kay, who was feeling every bit as emotional and excited.

Then it was time.

As Kay walked down the aisle, John's face completely lit up. It was one of those beautiful, genuine reactions that says everything without a single word. Kay's brother had the honour of giving her away, and the pride and happiness on his face made the moment even more special.

Throughout the ceremony, the couple barely took their eyes off one another as the registrar welcomed everyone and guided them through their vows. John's sister gave a heartfelt reading, and one of the most touching moments of the ceremony came when Kay and John presented their son with a ring of his own, symbolising not only the joining of two people, but the coming together of a family. It was such a meaningful and unique gesture.

And when the registrar announced they could kiss... they certainly made the most of it! After 16 wonderful years together, Kay and John were finally husband and wife.

With the ceremony complete, everyone gathered outside ready for one of my favourite parts of any wedding day - the confetti!

Guests lined either side of the pathway, creating the perfect aisle, with the magnificent Lichfield Cathedral providing an incredible backdrop. As Kay and John walked through a shower of colourful confetti, they couldn't stop smiling and laughing, completely soaking up the moment with their family and friends cheering them on.

One of my favourite photographs from the day came right at the end of the confetti walk, when John instinctively caught a single piece of confetti in his hand. It was such a fun, perfectly timed moment that summed up the joy and excitement of the day beautifully.

With the confetti celebrations over, it was time for the group photographs. We started with all the important family combinations before adding a little fun. The boys certainly didn't disappoint, treating us to a memorable funny walk towards the camera that still makes me smile every time I look at the photographs!

As always, the family portraits are some of the most treasured images from a wedding day. They're the photographs that grow more valuable with time, especially when they include grandparents and loved ones from different generations together.

Once the group photos were complete, I stole Kay and John away for some portraits beneath the trees, making the most of the beautiful dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. They were so relaxed together, making it easy to capture those natural moments before we crossed over to the Garden of Rememberance.

Here, they laughed, danced and twirled through the gardens while I photographed every moment and my husband flew the drone overhead, capturing the beautiful surroundings from above. The drone then flew along the riverside towards Lichfield Cathedral, creating some incredible cinematic footage, while I jumped into their wedding car to capture a few intimate moments as they enjoyed the journey together.

Our final stop was the magnificent Lichfield Cathedral. The couple paused beside their gorgeous retro VW Campervan before strolling hand in hand towards the cathedral doors. From above, the drone followed their journey against the stunning city skyline, while I captured every smile, glance and laugh from the ground. It was the perfect way to end this chapter of their wedding day, making the most of one of Staffordshire's most iconic backdrops.

Afterwards, Kay and John climbed back into their beautiful retro VW Campervan and headed off to enjoy an intimate meal with their closest family, taking a well-earned moment to soak up the excitement of becoming husband and wife.

It had been a glorious day from start to finish, wall-to-wall sunshine, endless smiles and so many heartfelt moments. Photographing Kay and John was an absolute joy. Their love for one another, after 16 years together, shone through in every photograph.
